I'm the Senior Vice President for Human Resources at Southcoast Health System, and Chair of the Greater New Bedford Workforce Investment Board, and I am here to introduce this edition of the WIB eNewsletter. There is one section of the eNews in particular that I would like to draw your attention to. That section is the “Operations Improvement Update”. Due to the historic economic downturn, we began to see a large number of dislocated workers lining up at the local career center waiting for services. In recognition of this, Mayor Scott Lang asked us to embark on improving services and operational efficiency. To address this important need, the WIB worked closely with the Greater New Bedford Career Center staff and came up with 22 action items to improve services and to serve a greater number of people in a shorter time. Over the past several of months these actions have been taking place, and below you will find a link to the report that documents the steps that were taken to overcome this pressing need. This is just one of the many interesting segments of this Newsletter, I encourage you to read about other significant happenings in workforce development, and I would like to thank you all for your continued support.
